This is the first publication of a book projected by Shengeli almost a century ago. Ostracised in the 1930s, Shengeli (1894-1956) is one of the finest Russian writers of Petrarchan sonnets. The book contains 48 sonnets by Shengeli and 29 by Baudelaire, Verlaine and others in Shengeli’s translation. Edited and with notes by Vadim Perel’muter and beautifully designed and illustrated by Igor’ Semennikov. |
